Hello friends, Fellows, and other members of the IJNR family. We bring you exciting news: One of our primary goals for 2010 (our 15th anniversary year!) has been to boost our online presence by doing a better job of reaching, serving and showcasing our Fellows. After many months of work and planning, we are proud to unveil our brand-new website. It’s still the same old url (www.ijnr.org), but it has a whole new look, and a lot of useful new elements.
One of the most important improvements, we think, is the section called “Featured Works by Fellows” now appearing on the home page. It is a revolving display of individual news stories, as well as series and packages of coverage, plus books—all generated by IJNR Fellows. The display will be updated continually. We hope visitors will return often to check for the latest.
And that’s where you IJNR Fellows can help. In order to display your excellent work on our site, we first need to know that it exists. We do our own surveillance of the journalism world, of course, but we sometimes miss important coverage. So we are now asking Fellows to utilize the password-protected IJNR database to lend a hand.
Hey, Fellows! You can now access the database through our website’s home page, or by going to this link: https://my.freshdex.com/ijnr, and then you can enter the links to your own stories in the “Showcase” section of your personal profile (which resides in the database). (Just click on the star and paste the link – very simple!)
The annual conference of the Society of Environmental Journalists will be held in Missoula, Montana, this year. Conference dates are October 13-17. Here at IJNR World Headquarters, we are excited to welcome hundreds of journalists to our hometown. From personal experience, we can attest that October in Montana can be beautiful, and thus well worth visiting. The SEJ conference is a perfect excuse! Bring your family!
We look forward to seeing many of you throughout the five-day event, and especially at the IJNR Reunion Dinner, scheduled for the evening of Friday, October 15, at the home of Frank and Maggie Allen.
That Friday is also the evening of the Beat Dinners at SEJ, but we hope that event won't pose too big a hurdle for any of you. To maintain the IJNR reputation, Frank and Maggie have hired a bus for the evening to shuttle from downtown to their new home and back.
Join us for a good ride, good food, good drink and good company—all for only $15. (Dinner on that Friday night is "on your own" for all SEJ attendees anyway. Even so, if $15 is a bit steep, please contact Maggie at Maggie.Allen@IJNR.org to work out a more palatable sum.)
Also, be sure to check out which IJNR Alumni have received one or more of SEJ’s awards this year. You can do this by going to the Award Winners page our website, http://www.ijnr.org/featured_works/award_winners.html
