MISSION

IJNR is a tax-exempt, nonprofit educational foundation and an independent public charity. IJNR pursues higher standards of news coverage of natural resources and the environment -- standards of accuracy, fairness, balance, depth and context.

To raise those standards, IJNR seeks to improve the quality of the conversations that produce the coverage, especially the conversations among journalists and between journalists and their sources, the people who undertake IJNR's expedition-style journeys together.

Such interaction is an essential starting point for improving the quality of the public conversation and debate on natural-resource and environmental issues.

IJNR's programs are designed to serve the "storytellers" and the other information "gatekeepers" who, in turn, can inform the decision makers and the general public.
