Social Media Contractor

6-8 hours/week
$25/hour
12 - 15 weeks to start with possibility to extend

IJNR is seeking a contractor to assist with maintaining, monitoring, and expanding our presence across multiple social media platforms. This person must be proficient with Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Bluesky, and Twitter/X, and have a good working knowledge of social media best practices. The ideal candidate will have experience utilizing social media in a professional capacity (for a nonprofit, newsroom, etc.). Experience with environment journalism is a plus. 

Initial responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring activity across IJNR’s five active social media platforms (Instagram/Threads, LInkedIn, Facebook, Bluesky, Twitter/X)

  • Reacting and reposting/sharing relevant posts from our alumni and affinity organizations.

  • Aggregating relevant information (alumni stories, job opportunities, award announcements, etc.) to be shared via socials, newsletter, and/or on website. 

  • Finding and following new Fellows, potential applicants, affinity orgs, relevant foundations, etc. 

  • Coordinating with Director of Communications on social media campaigns, timelines, etc.

The responsibilities of this position have the potential to expand, and may include:

  • Creating original posts about IJNR activities, alumni news, etc. 

  • Creating promotional content for IJNR programs

  • Contributing (as IJNR) to relevant conversations on social media

This position will report directly to the Director of Communications, with additional oversight from the CEO.
