Please Support IJNR!

Dear Friend of IJNR -

Every November we take stock, and can’t believe how much we’ve done in the past year.

In 2023 we visited ranches and wild lands of eastern Idaho, manoomin beds and mining sites along Lake Superior, and the ancestral lands of the Klamath, Modoc, Yahooskin, Karuk, Yurok and Shasta in Northern California and Oregon. Our Fellows suited up and swam with baby salmon, trawled for fish in the St. Louis River, and stood among a couple hundred head of cattle to hear about ranching in wolf country. We awarded reporting grants that will support projects from the Gulf of Mexico to Northern Canada and many points in between. And still to come before the end of the year: two virtual workshops, one on Indigenous Knowledge Systems and the other on wildfire policy and politics. We’ve been busy, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

In fact, we’re scheming ways to stay even busier! We’re planning a number of workshops and institutes in 2024, along with expanded reporting grants, serial programming, and an ambitious project focused on equity in environment reporting. We’re setting the groundwork to bring more hands on deck and ensure that IJNR thrives and grows in the future.

We’re so grateful that we get to do this work, and that we get to spend time with so many incredible people who are committed to telling these stories. The passion we see – in both our Fellows and our speakers – fuels our work every day.

But as every journalist knows, passion doesn’t pay the bills! Which is why we’ve come to the part of this letter where we humbly request your support.

We hope that your IJNR experience proved fruitful. We hope you came away with story ideas, new sources, new friends, and, perhaps, a rekindled enthusiasm for the hard work you do. We hope you’ll consider pitching in to ensure the IJNR experience remains an opportunity for other journalists, well into the future.

With gratitude,
The IJNR Staff
